About Me

Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom
My name is Clare I live in Nottinghamshire and work in education supporting students as my full time job but like to make cards, craft and plan as a hobby. I have recently taken up arigurumi crochet, the perfect autumn/winter hobby. I have also decided after a number of years off to pick up my guitar and learn to play again so due to metal strings and crochet hooks the ends of my fingers are slowly toughening up.

Ladies Pamper Evening

The school I work at is holding a Ladies Pamper Evening on the 2nd May to raise funds for a local hospital teenage cancer unit so they can create a chill out room and I've been asked to stand with my cards, so my weekend has been spent making lots of cards. Here are just a few of them, these are what I'd call my basic card stock and will all sell at £1.50. They are all simple matting and layering with a few ribbons and bows and flowers added.

Prima Ballerina - Strawberries and clotted cream inspired colours - I do love the lacey edges

Birthday Cake- Spring colours and lacey edges again with with some added ribbon.

Spring Wedding - I just love the ribbon and had to add a couple of mulberry flowers the same as her bouquet.

Gone Fishing! - Actually want to find a nice brown button to finish this off!!

Quite enjoyed doing these and there were quite a few more - but I do like my colouring, so this week I'll be making more cards but with coloured images.

Alice in Chains

I decided some time ago to have a little notebook as I make cards so that I can note down the colours of pens and card I've used on different cards along with the suppliers of different embellishments in case I run out.  The only problem for me was it was looking rather boring as it was just a plain black spiral bound book.  As I had just purchased an A4 embossing folder called Garden Lattice from Gemini Crafts - Sutton in-Ashfield  and a Raspberry plate for my Grand Calliber, I embossed a piece of plain white card and used "Spun Sugar" distress ink and a cosmetic sponge to emphasise the pattern.

I had also purchased some "Tim Holtz- Spun Sugar" cardstock also at Gemini and used this to layer the image I'd chosen.

The image I chose was a Kenny Kiernan called "Alice in Chains".  I coloured her using FS1 & 2 for her skin. A Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pen "Spun Sugar" to colour her dress and shoes and .layered the olour to get the depth.  I used another Distress Ink pen "Pumice Stone" for the chain.  Her hair I coloured in TN1 & 2 and EB1 & 2. My partner said I should've coloured her hair black as it would've looked better. I actually did a card in the same colours but did her hair EB7 and I must admit the depth of colour looks great against the "spun sugar" although for my notebook I am happy to have her hair this colour :-)

I had a strip of card left when I layered the image so uing a small embossing folder that had been included in the Crafters Companion Spring Edition magazine I made myself a bookmark too.

New Baby Boy

As I said in my last blog some days ago I had done at least two of the Saturated Canary "New Baby" images. The second one I did for a baby boy and the lady was done with dark hair.

For this one I used Spectrum Noir pens LV1 & 2 for her dress and to colour in both the doily and the brads, I think it was TB1 for the baby's blanket and TN1 & 2, EB7 and GB2 for her hair.

Spellbinder Labels 22 dies were used to cut out the frame from some Creative Memories card. I used one of the cream paper roses the same as on the New Baby Girl card and a couple of flowers that had been kindly donated by a friend.  The two purple roses to the edge of the little bouquets I made using fimo and a rose mould. I was really pleased with them, that pleased I've made a few to use on other cards.

I'm quite pleased with the end result.  What do you think?

I'm entering this one into Sir Stampalot's April Challenge "Special Occasions"

New Baby Girl

I love this image by Krista at Saturated Canary although I love Krista's work fullstop to be fair. This one is called New Baby. I've actually done her two ways...this is the first.

After colouring in the image, using Spectrum Noir pens (TN1 & 2, EB2 for the hair, LG1 & 2 for the dress and PP1 & 2 for the baby blanket) I chose to matt and layer her with some green card I had in stock from my time with Creative Memories and a white heart doily I'd bought from Wendy at Gemini Crafts, Sutton in Ashfield. I picked up the pink of the baby blanket with smalled padded hearts and the brads I coloured in using the same pens so they blended. I used a small sequinned butterfly I also had in stock.

Last week I'd popped into Sally Twinkles in Mansfield for the first time in about 20 years. Amazing!, it's a real haberdashery (old style), lots of rolls of fabric, ribbons, fringing, tubs of buttons - everything....I was in heaven...lol  I purchased a few quids worth of paper flowers and used some of them on this card.

All in all really pleased with the result of this one, really pretty.

Intend to enter her into Divas by Design Spring Colours challenge and also Paper Takes Weekly Challenge Anything Goes.

Hope you like her as much as I do

Father's Day

I spent most of the weekend making Father's Day cards from some downloads I had from Crafter's Companion and am pretty chuffed with the results. They are fairly simple and not over embellished. I don't think embellished cards are necessarily a 'man thing' so I tried not to go overboard.

Although I do quite like the campervan card and that's got flowers and a tag.

I have another lot to make, also from one of the Crafter's Companion downloads that is based on 'rock' as in music, with guitars and music notes for those musical Dad's like mine :-) so there may be a further Father's Day blog at a later date. I have til June after all...lol
